Fairtex BGV1

The BGV1 is the glove most people picture when they think of Fairtex. The UK distributor's listing describes it as a universal boxing glove made from premium leather with a three-layer foam system and a tight-fit hand compartment. It's sold in 10oz, 12oz, 14oz and 16oz at £114.99 (at the time of writing, September 2026).

Good for: an all-round glove that works for pads, bag and sparring at 16oz.
Consider: the snug hand compartment is a selling point for some and a problem for people with wide hands. Try before you buy if you can.
Cheaper option: Fairtex also sells the BGV1C-PLUS in microfibre at £99.99 through the same UK distributor.

UK stock: Fairtex lists Muaythai-Boxing (MTB) as its UK distributor, and MTB describes itself as the exclusive UK distributor for Fairtex. Other UK retailers are supplied through that route. More on the brand: Fairtex.

Twins Special BGVL3

The BGVL3 is Twins Special's long-running classic. MTB's listing describes it as handmade in Thailand from Thai leather, with a hook-and-loop strap and attached thumb, and suggests 10–12oz for pads and bags and 14–16oz for sparring. It's £149.99 in 8oz to 16oz at the time of writing (September 2026).

Good for: people who want a traditional Thai glove with a flatter profile that's comfortable in the clinch.
Consider: it's the priciest glove in this list. The listing notes the leather shapes to your hand after breaking in, so it may feel stiff at first.
Cheaper option: the Twins BGVL4 is £129.99 at MTB.

Top King

Top King is another Thai brand with a loyal following in Muay Thai gyms. The UK retailer Muay Thailand lists the Full Impact glove in premium cowhide leather with extra padding and a Velcro strap, handmade in Thailand, at £114.50 in 10–16oz. The same retailer also lists the Top King Super Air at the same price, which adds mesh on the palm.

Good for: a Thai-made leather glove at a similar price to the Fairtex BGV1.
Consider: fewer UK retailers carry Top King than Fairtex or Venum, so you may have less choice of colours and sizes in stock. More: Top King.

YOKKAO

YOKKAO sells direct to UK buyers from its own UK store. The Power glove is listed in microfibre leather with multi-layered foam, handmade in Thailand, with sizes from 8oz to 18oz. Prices rise with weight: £129 for 8oz up to £159 for 18oz, with 16oz at £155 (at the time of writing, September 2026). YOKKAO also sells a lower-priced Essential glove at £89, aimed at beginners.

Good for: heavier people whose gym asks for 18oz, and anyone who wants bold designs.
Consider: priced per weight, so a 16oz pair costs more than an 8oz pair. More: YOKKAO.

Venum

Venum is widely stocked in UK sports and combat shops. The Challenger 3.0 is listed at Made4Fighters with semi-leather, triple-layer foam and a large hook-and-loop closure, at £54.98 in 10–16oz. Further up the range, the Venum Elite is £99.99 at the same retailer.

Good for: a mid-price all-rounder that's easy to find in the UK.
Consider: it's a boxing-style glove rather than a Thai-pattern one, which suits many people fine. More: Venum.

RDX (budget)

RDX is the budget option most UK beginners will come across. On its UK store, the S5 Leather Sparring glove is listed in cowhide leather with gel lining in the palm, marked WAKO approved, at £25.99 in 10–16oz. The F7 Ego is £36.99 in 8–16oz, with RDX's Maya Hide outer.

Consider: these are boxing-style gloves; they're fine for Muay Thai classes but not Thai-pattern. More: RDX.

Hayabusa

Hayabusa's T3 is listed at Made4Fighters with interlocking "Dual-X" wrist straps, splinted wrist support and a Vylar exterior, at £159.00 in 10–16oz. The cheaper Hayabusa S4 is £70.00 in 12–16oz and is described by the retailer as a beginner glove suitable for Muay Thai.

Good for: people who prioritise wrist support in the glove design.
Consider: the wrist system is designed around boxing; some Muay Thai students prefer a shorter, simpler cuff for clinch work.

Muay Thai vs boxing gloves

You can train Muay Thai in either. In general:

Muay Thai-style gloves (typical of Thai brands) have a more even spread of padding and a flatter palm, which helps with catching kicks and grabbing in the clinch.
Boxing-style gloves concentrate more padding over the knuckles and often have a longer cuff.

Leather vs synthetic

Leather (Fairtex BGV1, Twins BGVL3, Top King, RDX S5 per their listings) is the traditional choice. It usually costs more and needs a little care: air it out after training and don't leave it in a closed bag.
Synthetic / microfibre (YOKKAO Power, Fairtex BGV1C-PLUS, Venum Challenger 3.0, Hayabusa T3 per their listings) is often cheaper and suits people who don't want leather.

Neither is automatically better. Look at the padding, closure and fit first.

Sizing

Weight is about padding, not hand size. Most UK gyms ask for 16oz for sparring and often 18oz for heavier members. For bag and pad work only, 12–14oz is common.
